And you are not just setting an example - you are taking action yourself, picking up a garbage bag and pinching stick and making our locality cleaner, more beautiful and more livable. This is exactly what our society lives on: from people who get involved themselves, who recognize where their help is needed and who enjoy making their home a little better."
The local mayor made this statement in his speech at the opening of the community cleaning event and also actively participated in the garbage collection. The campaign was carried out by the Seraji Foundation e.V. in cooperation with BASUG Diaspora and Development, House of Integration, German-Bengali Society Cologne-Bonn e.V., Die Grenze and Our Voice Online on Sunday, October 27 in Duisdorf.
Since July 2021, the associations and initiatives have regularly organized the exchange meeting and community cleaning event every last Sunday of the month. BonnOrange supports the campaign with garbage bags and gloves.
Dr Leonhardt emphasized, among other things, the importance of volunteering - also in the context of good neighborhood, good environment, cleanliness, sustainable lifestyle and the realization of a living society of the many. "Your commitment not only serves cleanliness, but is also a sign of the good coexistence of the different people and cultures in Hardtberg. I am happy to live in a cosmopolitan and colorful district. At the same time, we all notice how voices in society are increasingly making themselves heard that speak out against equal coexistence of all people. Campaigns like this are very important because they show that we belong together, we all live in the same neighborhood, and we are all happy when it looks clean and well-kept," said the district mayor.
Deputy managing director of the House of Integration Nurul Islam and Dr. Hossain Abdul Hai, chairman of the Seraji Foundation e.V., praised the large participation of the Bonn population and emphasized the importance of environmental protection. The Chief Editor of the magazine 'Die Grenze', Riazul Islam, moderated the discussion and praised the community cleaning event as an important step towards a clean city. Among others, officials of Seraji Foundation Toufiqul Hoque, Siratun Naim, Khurshid Hassan, Saiful Haider, Nurettin Aydin, Siradg Mohammad Zain, Sibar Ibrahim, Nasreddin Omar, Salma Ahamed, Saico Balde, Idi Ismail Ssessanga, Aayan Mahfuz participated in the event.
